Robin is doing 3 fortnights in Spain in 2004. Please phone 01424 200 451 for details.

Cortijo El Cachete is set on top of a hill in 100 acres of Olive Groves and evergreen oak trees, within an hour's drive of Granada and Ronda as well as Mediterranean beaches. Malaga airport is 45 minutes away. At 700metres above sea level the climate is slightly cooler than Malaga and the light has a fabulous quality, changing the appearance of the Sierra de Loja dramatically at different times of the day. The immediate gardens and grounds offer plentiful subjects for painters and within half an hour's walk are charming ruined farmhouses and spectacular panaoramas.

The accomodation consists of twin and double rooms with ensuite facilities. Most of the year meals are served on the terrace. Lunch is usually light with salad and fruit or a picnic if required. The evening meal is a more elaborate and convivial occasion. There is an honesty bar for drinks and tea and coffee facilities are available at all times. There is a magnificent swimming pool in its own courtyard under a splendid palm tree. Horseriding is also available from the Cortijo. The studio is in a converted barn which overlooks open countryside and has good natural light. A basic stock of art materials, drawing boards and white spirit is kept at the centre but students are asked to bring materials they usually use.Visits can be arranged to the Alhambra Palace in Granada, Cordoba or to Rhonda, the town which inspired the painter David Bomberg.

The painting tutor, Robin Holtom, trained at Chelsea School of Art and the Royal College of Art. He taught in Colleges and Adult education before establishing his own residential painting courses in Wales. He now works full time at his own painting, printmaking and sculpture and teaches in June every year at Verrochio Arts Centre in Tuscany. His teaching emphasises the development of students' personal vision. At the same time there will be opportunities to explore different techniques and media. A typical day will start with a drawing or painting exercise for an hour or so. The rest of the day will give plenty of opportunity for individual work. There will also be talks and demonstrations from time to time and occasional reviews of work in the evening. Robin's courses are innovative, challenging and enjoyable. Describing Robin's courses the Daily Telegraph said "Everyone should go on one at some time in their lives."
